Meet Our Opticians

LUMetro Eye Milwaukee Optical Stylist Lu Labonte

When did you start in the eyewear industry?

1995

Why/how did you get into this field?

At the time I was working for Ciba Vision as a Contact Lens Merchandiser. The job required a lot of traveling throughout the state of Wisconsin servicing private practices and optical chains. I was asked from one of my accounts if I would like the opportunity to become an optician. I said yes and have been in the industry ever since.

What do you love about your job?

I love being able to personalize eyewear to create a look that the patient has not imagined before. Giving patients the one-on-one attention. Also, being the buyer for Metro Eye allows me to create a look for Metro Eye that fits well in our downtown optical.

What is your current favorite trend in eyewear/lens technology etc…

My favorite trend is the Retro look. Frames that have very retro shapes but a modernized flair. The trend now is anything from the 1950′s to the 1980′s.

We use the best lens technology, from trivex materials to freeform progressives. We are able to customize a frame for the hard to fit patient or for somebody just wanting something unique to call their own.

CRYSTALMetro Eye Milwaukee Optical Stylist Crystal Behrendt

When did you start in the eyewear industry?

I started in the eyewear industry in 2002.

Why/how did you get into this field?

I was working at various clothing stores throughout high school, but looking for something more rewarding. A friend of mine was working at an optical nearby, and landed me an interview. I fell in love right way and have been this industry ever since. That was almost 10 years ago.

What do you love about your job?

I love working with people and learning new things. Being an Optician allows me to do both. Everyday I get to help patients find their perfect pair of glasses while also keeping up on the latest eyewear trends. This industry is always progressing with new and exciting technology. Being able to learn about it and see how patients benefit from it is very rewarding.

What is your current favorite trend in eyewear/lens technology etc…

I’m excited about the new Relax Lens from Shamir. Its a Fatigue Relief lens for single vision wears. Great for college students, or those of us who do a lot of reading.

When did you start in the eyewear industry?

1984

Why/how did you get into this field?

I was first introduced to this industry when I was very young since my mother was an Optician. Years later I started working along side her at the same optical. I have been in this field ever since.

What do you love about your job?

I love helping patients choose their new eyewear. I also enjoy learning about the designer frames and latest lens technology. What I love most of all, is seeing how happy patients are when picking up their new glasses.

What is your current favorite trend in eyewear/lens technology etc…

I’m excited about the latest freeform progressives that are on the market today. Having worn progressives for years, I’m experiencing the difference with the latest designs.

DEDEEMetro Eye Milwaukee Optical Stylist Deedee McClone

When did you start in the eyewear industry?

1988

Why/how did you get into this field?

I was working at a department store which happened to be right across the hall from an optical. While I was socializing with the neighboring stores I realized I may be on the wrong side of the hall. I loved the idea of fashion combined with technology. Weeks later I was hired at the optical.

What do you love about your job?

I love helping patients find eyewear that makes them feel good. As an Optician, we are here to help you see your best! I get really excited when patients put on that new pair and say, “I love how I look in my new glasses!”

What is your current favorite trend in eyewear/lens technology etc…

My current favorite trend is “movie star sunglasses.” Even when you don’t have time to look your best, throw on a pair of great sunglasses, a little lipstick and you are ready to face anything. Glasses should express and support your personality. They should be fun and make you happy.
